Palm Trees and Wood Paneling

It is no big surprise that there is not much in the place where we will be moving. Part of this nothingness is the fact that there are few homes built onsite. This means that 99% of all the homes you see and have a choice to buy are manufactured homes. Because we will be moving to a small town we are given less options of homes to buy. There are a handful really. Most of the ones for sale are old and not worthy of occupants any longer and there are two "built" in 1988. That is all. Because we are limited in our options we are also considering bringing in a brand new home to put on land we would buy. This would increase our options greatly. This adds to the fun and excitement of looking for a place to put our family.

Not only has it been fun to look for a place but funny, to say the least. I have browsed the listing of nearby towns along with Las Vegas for the fun of it. I am shocked, surprised, and astounded by what people think looks good. Now, don't get me wrong, I understand we all have different styles and what I may like is not what someone else likes. However there a several instances where I must say to myself, "what were these people thinking?" Many times it is the horrendous color or wallpaper that someone chooses. Many times it is the wall-to-wall wood paneling that not only covers the walls but the doors as well. There are a few styles that seem to be popular such as the very ugly wallpaper through a bathroom that covers the front of the bathtub as well. There is the dining room linoleum that meets with the kitchen linoleum but they are quite opposite in style and design. Of course, some things are just tacky such as the Palm Tree on the toilet seat. To be fair, many newer manufactured homes are done quite nicely and the owners have done a good job in picking color but the furniture they choose really makes a person cringe. Yes, I cringe a lot at what I have been seeing. I wonder, when it comes time to sell my own will someone look at the pictures and cringe the same way I do now?

edit: I suppose I ought to not post this until I am done browing the homes. Come on, A huge decal of a football player on the dining room wall! I even had hope for these people.

One of my favorites is the beautiful master bathtub with decals of lips all over the wall above.

Ok, I will stop now before it gets out of hand.

My goodness sounds like you are moving to NEVADA! I know what you are seeing I grew up in Nevada and moved out the VERY second I had the chance! Good luck to you! Sounds like you will help improve Nevada. I have a ton of family still living in the northern part and cringe to even go visit. Going to the wedding made me all the more put off by the state. Make your home your haven. you will want to be there almost all the time! So put the money into it that will make you happy. Don't just settle!

good to know. I definitely plan on getting a brand new place and expect to be at home a lot. I guess that is a good thing.
