One of these days I will stay in the house...oh, that is today.
I haven't been home much in the last little while. I spent most of yesterday out of the house so the construction guy could paint and texture our ceiling in the kitchen. I must admit, although it was a pain coordinating him to come at a time we would be out (he didn't come when we were out) I hope this is it. I came home after a few hours of leaving him to his work and just had to laugh. I looked up at the ceiling and low and behold it is textured.....however, isn't the ceiling supposed to be painted first? I am not sure if this looks worse or not. If I were to tell someone about it they would just brush it off as it being the way things are done in Amargosa Valley. I have heard that one several times, as if people in Amargosa Valley just don't ever care about anything...ever. People don't matter and having a landlord who is a nice guy means nothing when it comes to getting a place to live that is taken care of. They do things the Amargosa way around here, because that is just the way things are done.
Although we were out of the house for a time yesterday we made good use of it. I took the kids to some friends of ours from church, also our home teachers and visiting teacher. They are building their own home. They started with the shed then moved on to the garage and once the garage is finished they will begin the house. We sat and talked in the nice cool breeze for a few hours. They showed us their dead scorpions and the rattle snake skin they dried. Abby got to ride on their ATV to look at a pumpkin patch and various squash. I followed suit with Maxwell and the Mrs. We talked about how the patch there is having some problems because things were done the Amargosa way. They were told by the owners they could have anything out of the patch any time they wanted.
Abby and the Mr. picked a watermelon. We cut it in two and divided up what was inside, spitting out the seeds on our paper plates. Only Abby insisted on having a fork, but that didn't get her one. She still had to use her hands. We conversed for a while longer and finally after devouring a wonderful watermelon Abby and the Mr. went out to pick another for us to take home and enjoy.
I don't mind eating someone else's watermelon. They gave the melon to my friends and my friends gave it to us. Despite all that I was informed that the melon growers only grow seeded melons to help pollinate the seedless and they just let the seed melons rot because they only sell the seedless to the store, because that is what the store will buy. Curious as it may be, it may be true, it may not be, but it is a good melon.
