Whatnot

Picture time and story time and whatnot.

It has been busy and I've got pictures.
We just had Abby's great Grandpa here for a few days. Before that Sam's dad was here for a week. Now, who else wants to come visit?

Abby turned 6. She got a birthday party and I made a cake, to the best of my ability at the last minute.

Abby liked it so much she made her own version with the play-dough she got for her birthday.

During Sam's dad's visit I took them to the pick your own farm. It was a rainy day but by golly I wasn't going to miss it. The kids had coupons for a free 1/4 peck of apples and you can only pick on weekends. I missed their free peaches the month before and so we went to the picking farm. We had a very fast 'hay' ride. It wasn't really hay, we sat on boxes.

Sam and I have always enjoyed games. I have not always enjoyed the game of scrabble. Who likes scrabble anyway? :) Actually I don't hate scrabble until Sam comes up with a word that uses all of his letters and he wins by that extra 50 points. We found a version I can win at though and prevents Sam from using all his letters. Do you think you can figure out by just looking at the picture? Let me know your guesses.

Now it brings us to the Pumpkin farm that the School for the Deaf went to last week. Maxwell loved it. We had only so much time before we had to leave and scramble back to Abby's school, an hour from this farm, to watch Abby in her school's fun run.

To conserve battery power I turned off the digital camera screen and looked through the view finder. I think I should keep the screen on and never again look through the view finder as the result is not what I saw when I took the picture, and it isn't even straight.

And in case you forgot what I look like I'll throw a picture of me in while we were on a hay ride. They actually had hay.

This next picture I just love the idea of. Instead of bouncy balls these people have created a pit of corn. At Abby's fun run Maxwell had corn falling out his pants.

And now for Abby's fun run. She ran for half an hour and went six times around the course. I didn't even make it once around, but I was holding Maxwell and Abby's coat while trying to run. Perhaps I ought to get in shape to run with her next year.

We are still trying to figure out what to do for Maxwell's gait trainer. Turns out the insurance decided they don't cover it (they did before) and the secondary insurance probably won't but they won't approve it until........this could take awhile. We'll get it though at some point, but I think Maxwell will actually be walking by then. In the mean time we still use his wheelchair. Sadly it was damaged on a train ride awhile back and his tire is difficult to pump up. So, here is us trying to pump it up. How many people does it take to pump up a tiny tire? Now that is what I call team work.

Have I mentioned yet how much Maxwell love breakfast food? He won't eat beans or potatoes anymore. Yesterday I sent a sandwich, cake, and poptarts (as a backup) for snack and lunch. Max didn't even eat the cake. What kind of a boy am I raising here anyway? He won't eat cake! He loves cake. Needless to say, he is on a breakfast kick and so he will snack on cereal.

I could easily feel bad about how much cereal I give Maxwell or how many pop tarts I let him eat, but you know, I can't. I've learned that as long as he is eating I am happy and grateful. Some parents may think I am awful for doing that, but you know, I can't let that bother me. Maxwell will eat, and boy does he eat, and that is important, and if all he is willing to eat is cereal I'll let him. That won't stop me from trying to give him something else though, but that usually ends up on the floor.

i would give anything for Kylie to eat a poptart and tons of cereal!! Enjoy every second of it and don't you care one smidge what other people think--even though I am still working on that one for me. :)

Jenny, I always enjoy your posts. Your b-day cake was impressive. I never in all my life made a cool cake like that. Maxwell looks great and so does Abby.

I love Abby's cake! It's really awesome (and what great inspiration she had). I miss that farm. Well, I miss Maryland in general.
I'm glad to see things are going well for y'all. :) I hope we can visit the next time we come to Baltimore.
