Well, we made it to NV in one piece. It was a rough weekend. We got stuck in Chicago airport because of weather. We slept on cots and ate airplane snack food. We met several people who were kind and were able to bypass most of the unhappy ones. I was glad when we got on a plane from standby. It was just in time. I must give credit to Abby though. She was a real trooper. She made friends with everyone, including the captain. She was pretty much the only one who could sleep on a cot though, her and every other kid who was too exhausted to stay awake. I was glad my mom was there though. I could not have done that by myself. It would not have been fun and I am sure I would have been in tears if I had been alone.
We received a warm welcome from some of the locals around here. They do know how to make someone feel at home. There is even a boarding school for troubled youth here. It is run by someone in our ward and they have a little girl Abby's age. (yay!)
I haven't found anything I dislike yet except the long boring drive to Vegas. I can't really hate the wind because I grew up with constant wind. I am used to it. I have been enjoying the nice weather and how quiet things are. We have a nice view of the mountains as well. It is also fun to see the jets (as I try not to wreck the car) on the Vegas to home drive. The jets can do lots of things and it is kind of cool to see them circle and stay in formation.
I was planning on staying home today though from all of the driving we did this last week to get errands done. I had my plans but Maxwell had other plans. It seems he wanted to meet a few of the volunteer EMTs today. They were nice. They weren't needed, but what can I say. No one really can prepare you for when your child's feeding tube comes out of the their stomach. Being such a fresh wound (it was put in on the 9th) I couldn't just put it in myself and even if I could I think it would have been too much for me. So, I packed the kids in the car and we headed to Vegas. It isn't fun trying to find the hospital in a town you are unfamiliar with and when the exit you want is closed for construction. I did find it though and once I figured out where to park and what floor to take him to (4th floor of the parking garage is ped ER with no parking places available except reserved for media spots) we were set. Of course, just like the EMTs couldn't do anything for Max either could the drs at the hospital. By the time we had gotten there it had already closed up some and even if it hadn't since it was so new they could not put it in as well. The dr was going to try and find someone who could do it but they were in the OR. I really didn't mind though and all in all I am tempted to not have the tube put back in. Maxwell still weighs 14 lbs and after two months of nothing with extra food I think he might do just as good without. He seems very happy to have it gone and for the first time in months he is actually sleeping soundly or shall I say soundless. He is making no noise at all, which is rare. I keep looking over to make sure he is still breathing. Actually, one of the nurses in the ER panicked when she saw him sleeping and woke him up because she thought he was a bit blue and wasn't breathing. He gave her an evil look for waking him up.
Anyhow, maybe I can stay home tomorrow. It would be nice to just relax a bit and maybe have time to put the laundry away.
